Have you ever left a job, changed careers, or started your own business, only to find yourself still thinking and acting the same way?
You may be experiencing what I call a Corporate Hangover.
A corporate hangover isn’t about where you work. It’s about the beliefs and habits you’ve carried with you from years of conditioning. Many of us were taught to follow the rules, seek approval, avoid mistakes, and wait for permission before making decisions. While these behaviours may have helped us succeed in a traditional workplace, they can become barriers when we’re trying to create a life or business on our own terms.
I often see talented and capable people holding themselves back, not because they lack knowledge or skills, but because they are still operating from an old self-image. They hesitate to put themselves out there, overthink decisions, and wait until everything is perfect before taking action.
The truth is that success doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from trusting yourself enough to move forward before you feel completely ready.
One of the biggest signs of a corporate hangover is the belief that success must be earned through struggle. Many people are comfortable working hard, but uncomfortable receiving support, opportunities, recognition, or even money with ease. They have been conditioned to believe that effort alone creates results.
Yet the most successful people understand that growth isn’t just about doing more. It’s about thinking differently. It’s about seeing yourself differently.
Your self-image determines what you believe is possible for you. If you still see yourself as someone who needs permission, validation, or certainty before taking action, you’ll continue to create results that match that identity.
The good news is that you can change it.
You can choose new beliefs. You can develop a new self-image. You can learn to trust yourself, make decisions with confidence, and become open to receiving the success you’ve been working so hard for.
The question is: what old beliefs are you still carrying that no longer serve the future you’re trying to create?
Because your next level isn’t waiting for you to work harder. It’s waiting for you to think bigger.
