“The key to being HAPPY is knowing that you have the power to choose.”
How fascinating it is when I hear, “Happiness is an inside job.” That means only we can create happiness in our lives. That is the definition of our own happiness, our rules on how to get there.
So let your intuition help guide you. Deep down inside, you probably know what makes you happy. Take a minute to list the things that light you up, and see what items you can do now. It can be a simple listening to your favourite music and singing along at the top of your lungs. Action often makes us feel more energized.
Why is there suffering in the world?
So let’s talk about suffering and pain first.
Suffering is universal, a coexistence with pain. Pain is a physical or emotional sensation that you feel immediately and then it passes. Meanwhile, suffering is the subsequent story that accompanies said pain.
Pain and suffering are considered unpleasant. However, the provided definitions neither include the idea that pain and suffering can attack and even destroy the self nor the idea that they can constructively expand the self; both perspectives can be equally useful for managing pain and suffering, but they are not defining features of the same.
What does your Happiness look like today?
Some major events in our lives do make us happy, however happiness in this form doesn’t last. Happiness is synthetic, you either create it, or you don’t. Supremely happy people have honed habits that maintain their happiness day in, day out.
All of your suffering is from the mental stories that you create. No doubt that you’ll experience hard times. But, in most instances, they’re manageable. In fact, you can handle nearly anything as long as you learn not to create a story with what’s going on. Which means that you’re in control of diminishing these self-destructive thoughts as well.
In many cases of unhappiness, people experience difficult circumstances. When you are caught in the stress of life, you can easily forget your responsibility and how you should react to stay happy, comfortable and calm. You will stop to notice what is awesome and magical in life. No one can make you happy, nor can you make anyone else happy.
If not now, then when?
Happiness is a choice, it is an inside job. You have the ability to control your own emotions. Do not let anything or anyone rob you from your own happiness. Drop the negative people and dramas in your life. Choose to do more activities that’ll bring you joy for as long they are not detrimental to your body and soul.
Happy people choose to focus on the positive aspects of life rather than the negative. They set their minds on specific reasons to be grateful. So when it comes to smiling, our facial expression can influence our brain in just the same way our brains influence our face. In other words, you can actually program yourself to experience happiness by choosing to smile. Not to mention, all the pretty smiles you’ll receive in return for flashing yours is also guaranteed to increase your happiness level.
Remember that happiness is an inside job. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.
